Weird People – Josephine Myrtle Corbin The 4 Legged Woman
There are a lot of weird people out there, we run into them every day of our lives, but I bet you have not seen or heard of anyone as strange as Josephine Myrtle Corbin! Josephine was born in 1868 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. What makes her so unusual was that she was born a dipygus.
I bet you don’t know what a dipygus is, I didn’t until I came across this story. A dipygus, means that poor Josephine Corbin was born with two separate bodies from the waist down. That is right she had two pelvises that were side by side, and four legs. Basically the complete extra lower body was part of a twin that did not completely split away during the pregnancy.
What is really weird about Josephine is that her inner legs although they were attached to separate pelvises were tiny like a kids, but she was able to walk on her outer legs. Her inner legs were usable though, but to week to hold her body weight and walk on.
Believe it or not Josephine got married when she was 19 to doctor Clinton Bicknell, and bore several children with him. Four daughters and one son. Rumors have it that two of her children were born from one set of organs, and the other three from the other pelvis. There is no proof of this though, and Josephine Myrtle Corbin passed away on May 6, 1928.
