Weird Foods – Cuy

A lot of people growing up had hamsters an guinea pigs as pets. I had several hamsters myself, but did you know that scientist in Peru have been working on creating a giant guinea pig? So far they have created one of these weird animals that has weighed in at 2.2 pounds.

Most people, especially in the Unites States would probably think it was no big deal besides who would want a 2 pound guinea pig, but in Peru guinea pigs are not kept as pets. They are a study source of meat for the Peruvian people. Every year the people of Peru eat about 65 million guinea pigs which they call Cuy.
