Bizarre Circles In The Sahara
What is this bizarre circle located in the Sahara Desert of Mauritania? It is called the Richat Structure. The Richat Structure, sometimes called The Eye of Africa is nearly 30 miles across and is easily seen from space. The Richat Structure has gained a lot of attention since being discovered by the earliest space missions and has become a must see landmark for space shuttle crews.
There are lots of theories as to what has caused this bizarre landmark in a barren sea of sand, but no one knows for sure. Some people have said that it was from a meteorite, others have thought that it was a symmetrical uplift exposed by erosion. I think the most bizarre aspect of the Richat Structure is that there is a hotel located in the center of this remote landmark.
Google Sightseeing has a wonderful picture of it on their map that can be seen by Clicking Here!

Discovered by earliest space missions? I’ve been around since before ANY space missions & don’t remember hearing about this. ‘Course there’s quite a bit I don’t remember these days!
