The Grand Canyon Skywalk in Arizona is one of the neatest tourist attraction that I have seen in a while. This horseshoe shaped walkway with a glass floor that stretches out over 65 feet beyond the edge of the Grand Canyon and overlooks the canyon floor almost 4,000 feet below giving the Skywalk the title of the Worlds Highest View.

The Grand Canyon Skywalk was commissioned by and is owned by the Hualapai Indian tribe. Construction on the Skywalk began in March of 2004 and was completed and open to the public on March 28, 2007 at a cost of $31 Million.

Well this might not be the original Noah’s Ark but Surfer Jerry came across this life size replica while surfing the net. This Life size model of Noah’s Ark was built to half the length and a third of the width of the biblical specification. The Ark is 150 cubits long (almost two-thirds of a football field), 30 cubits high (same as a three story house) and 20 cubits wide. This amazing ark was built by Johan Huibers with some help from his son Roy. He did most of the work using modern power tools to build the ark out of cedar and pine. Upon entering the ark you are greeted by life size models of various animals. If you want to go see the ark you will have to travel to Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

What is this bizarre circle located in the Sahara Desert of Mauritania? It is called the Richat Structure. The Richat Structure, sometimes called The Eye of Africa is nearly 30 miles across and is easily seen from space. The Richat Structure has gained a lot of attention since being discovered by the earliest space missions and has become a must see landmark for space shuttle crews.

There are lots of theories as to what has caused this bizarre landmark in a barren sea of sand, but no one knows for sure. Some people have said that it was from a meteorite, others have thought that it was a symmetrical uplift exposed by erosion. I think the most bizarre aspect of the Richat Structure is that there is a hotel located in the center of this remote landmark.

The Zizkov Television Tower consists of three concrete pillars that supports the television transmitters, a restaurant and cafe, and three observation rooms. The tower is 709 feet high, has observation decks at the 328 foot level and the tower restaurant and cafe are situated in the lower pods at 207 feet. The elevators are equipped with speedometers and, transports passengers to the different levels at a rate of 4m/s. Besides being used as a television transmitter, the tower is also used as meteorological observatory.

Never heard of the Egyptian Labyrinth? Well I hadn’t either until I came across an article the other day and did some research on it. I was amazed by the impact that this find could have on human civilization. According to Herodotus (fitht century B.C.) first hand account, the labyrinth was more impressive than the great pyramids.

In February and March of this year a Belgian Egyptian expedition team used ground penetrating radar to scan the sands of Hawara. Their conclusion was that the Great Egyptian labyrinth did still exist. The Labyrinth was believed by many archaeologists to have been destroyed over the years by the Romans who were believed to have used it as a rock quarry. Many archaeologists believed that all that was left of the labyrinth was the foundation stones, some still argued that maybe it was the roof and not the foundation. It seem that according to the Belgian Egyptian expedition team that the latter was correct. Although they claim that a large portion of the temple is submerged in water, plans by The Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities to excavate and renovate the site have begun. Hopefully we will hear some more information about the labyrinth soon. Below is Herodotus first hand account of the labyrinth.

(History, 2.148-49)
Furthermore, they resolved to leave a memorial of themselves in common, and in pursuance of this resolve they made a labyrinth, a little above Lake Moeris, and situated near what is called the City of the Crocodiles. I saw it myself and it is indeed a wonder past words; for if one were to collect together all of the buildings of the Greeks and their most striking works of architecture, they would all clearly be shown to have cost less labor and money than this labyrinth. Yet the temple at Ephesus and that in Samos are surely remarkable. The pyramids, too, were greater than words can tell, and each of them is the equivalent of many of the great works of the Greeks; but the labyrinth surpasses the pyramids also. It has 12 roofed courts, with doors facing one another, 6 to the north and 6 to the south and in a continuous line. There are double sets of chambers in it, some underground and some above, and their number is 3,000; there are 1,500 of each. We ourselves saw the aboveground chambers, for we went through them so we can talk of them, but the underground chambers we can speak of only from hearsay. For the officials of the Egyptians entirely refused to show us these, saying that there were, in them, the coffins of the kings who had built the labyrinth at the beginning and also those of the holy crocodiles. So we speak from hearsay of these underground places; but what we saw aboveground was certainly greater than all human works. The passages through the rooms and the winding goings-in and out through the courts, in their extreme complication, caused us countless marvelings as we went through, from the court into the rooms, and from the rooms into the pillared corridors, and then from these corridors into other rooms again, and from the rooms into other courts afterwards. The roof of the whole is stone, as the walls are, and the walls are full of engraved figures, and each court is set round with pillars of white stone, very exactly fitted. At the corner where the labyrinth ends there is, nearby, a pyramid 240 feet high and engraved with great animals. The road to this is made underground.

Such was the labyrinth; but an even greater marvel is what is called Lake Moeris, beside which the labyrinth was built. The circuit of this lake is a distance of about 420 miles, which is equal to the whole seaboard of Egypt. The length of the lake is north and south, and its depth at the deepest is 50 fathoms [300 feet]. That it is handmade and dug, it itself is the best evidence. For in about the middle of the lake stand 2 pyramids that top the water, each one by 50 fathoms [300 feet], and each built as much again underwater; and on top of each there is a huge stone figure of a man sitting on a throne. So these pyramids are 100 fathoms [600 feet] high, and these 100 fathoms are the equivalent of a 600-foot furlong, the fathom measuring 6 feet, or four cubits (the cubit being six spans). The water in the lake is not fed with natural springs, for the country here is terribly waterless, but it enters the lake from the Nile by a channel; and for 6 months it flows into the lake, and then, another 6, it flows again into the Nile. During the 6 months that it flows out, it brings into the royal treasury each day a silver talent for the fish from it; and when the water flows in, it brings 20 minas a day.

Strabo, who visited Egypt in the first century B.C., long after Herodotus, described the labyrinth in a similar fashion though he did not mention the underground chambers (Geography, 17.1.37-38)
