The worlds first photo was taken by Joseph Niepce in France in 1826. It took an exposure time of 8 hours and is on an 8″x 6.5″ pewter plate. The photo has been on display at the University of Texas since 1964.

The above photo taken by Louis Ducos du Hauron in 1872 is said to be the worlds first color photograph. The photo is of a view of Angouleme in Southern France.

Fascinating! It’s interesting to note that a color photo in 1872 is actually quite good in quality all things considered.

How many Mega pixels was that first picture?

It is so amazing how technology has advanced but it is even more amazing how technology started.

    Hebrew Hammer –
sometimes people wrote on the pictures as a reference.
I don’t believe that is a time stamp. Look how long the writing is, it is obviously a location and year. Time stamps are often just a day/month/year combo of some sort.

Great post, is that really a time stamp on the first color photo though?
